Daniel Tiger Birthday Party with Free Printables!

July 2, 2015 by Laura Meckley 46 Comments

As previously mentioned, I thought we would be doing a Peppa Pig birthday party for Miss Elliott. However, she insisted she wanted a Daniel Tiger theme party so that’s what we did! I started with lot of great free resources from PBS and of course I had to add some of my own touches.

You can see the trolley prop, which I talked a bit about before. I originally planned to use it to hold food, but the top piece was not large or sturdy enough for that, so it was simply used for decoration only.

I bought the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Friends Figures Set from Amazon, and took them into our local Hy-Vee grocery store. I found another cake that was kind of outdoorsy (I think it was a Mickey Mouse cake actually, Mickey was driving around or something) and asked them to use our Daniel Tiger figurines instead. Turned out just fine, I think!

I printed her t-shirt iron on, and you could do something similar with these kinds of ink jet transfer papers.

Guests were greeted with a large poster and a couple signs. I added a few tissue paper poms, which I decided to buy instead of make myself, but it’s pretty easy to do. (Here’s a good tutorial on how to make your own tissue paper poms.) We had several sticker quotes with Daniel and his friends around the house in different rooms…even the bathroom!

I bought colorful tableware and stuck the circle stickers on paper cups.

The menu consisted of:

  • Daniel Tiger’s Gluten Free Veggie Spaghetti (actual vegetable noodles, or zoodles, which I made with my nifty Spiralizer tool!)
  • Miss Elaina’s Gluten Free Meatballs
  • Katerina Kittycat’s Carrots & Peppers
  • O the Owl’s Onion Dip
  • Prince Wednesday’s Pasta Salad
  • Tiger Tails
  • Royal Gluten Free Blueberry Buckle

I made a giant Daniel Tiger sticker and created “Stick the Nose on Daniel Tiger” which the kids loved! They thought it was HILARIOUS to intentionally put his nose on his ear. Almost two months later and giant Daniel is still on our sliding glass door! (But, that’s nothing…some of our Frozen decor is still up going on almost a year now!)

One of Elliott’s favorite toys was the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Bungalow Adventure Playset to go along with her other figurines.

When it was all over we sent out some cute “Ugga Mugga” thank you notes with her very own custom address labels.

It was a fun party! My big girl seemed happy with the results. =) (Don’t ask me why she refused to wear the coordinating red leggings I had for her, but at least I got a decent photo before she got “Tiger Tail” Cheetos dust all over her white shirt!)

Wedding Vow Plaque & 5 Years of Wedded Bliss

November 1, 2013 by admin Leave a Comment

I cannot believe that today marks one of the happiest days of my life; Five years ago this happened.

The Meckleys

Right after we got married I made this plaque with a slab of MDF, some paint, vinyl decals, and an image I put together using our wedding vows and a photo from our wedding.

Wedding Vow Plaque

Wedding Vow Plaque Close Up

I choose you,
To be no other than yourself,
Loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know.
I will respect you as an individual, a partner, and an equal.
I promise to laugh with you when times are good,
and endure with you when they are bad.
I will always adore, honor and encourage you.
You are my best friend, and I will love you always.

Even the best marriages experience ups and downs. This is why I feel especially blessed that the last five years have been filled with nothing but good times, happy memories, and more love than I ever knew existed.

Happy anniversary Mr. Meckley. You continue to be everything I never knew I always wanted. Here’s to another fabulous 5 years and many more!

Our World Famous Cupcake Stand

January 13, 2013 by admin Leave a Comment

Okay, maybe world-famous is a bit much…but it’s made the rounds on the Internet and wedding forums since its debut after our wedding in 2008.

Giant Cupcake Stand

We wanted something a bit extreme, yet flexible so we designed a giant cupcake stand that has interchangeable panels that can be swapped out for another wedding or event in the future. This makes it PERFECT for event planners & bakeries. Or, if you want to leave it up on display at home you can make panels to match your decor and use it to hold trinkets and framed photos if you like.

When it came time for our baby shower we didn’t need a GIANT stand (which holds about 220 regular size cupcakes) so we built a smaller version that holds 65-75 regular sized cupcakes.

You can find the free tutorial for the giant stand here, or you can purchase a PDF with step-by-step instructions and lots of photos in the Etsy shop.

Check out some of the lovely stands people have built using our design in our cupcake stand photo gallery! If you build one we would love to see and share your photos!! Send us a note & image right on this site.
