Today’s Felt Fun Friday project was a custom request by a fellow Signing Time instructor, and just in time for a last minute St. Patrick’s Day project!
The request was for a 3D stacking rainbow design like so.
But I thought every rainbow needs clouds, right?! You can’t tell in the photo but these are sparkly clouds made with glitter felt. All backed by stiff black felt, which not only adds a very nice contrasting outline, but makes the pieces nice and firm for handling.
I threw in a few ASL hands for a photo opp to show how much I L-O-V-E this little set. =)
This stacking rainbow set would be great for teaching colors and would be a fun add-on to the Signing Time Volume 6 DVD: My Favorite Things because it has a really cute “Colors of the Rainbow” song.

So, do YOU know the colors of our rainbow?!
I really wanted to create a PDF template for you so you could make your own, but honestly it needs to be a bit larger than what you can print on a piece of paper because the pieces get pretty thick with all the double layers. You can probably make your own fairly easily. If it helps, the clouds are approximately 2″ x 4″ and the largest layer of the rainbow (which is the last black layer) is 6″ x 12″. Then keep sizing down your pieces leaving about 1/4″ difference between the black backing and the colored piece of felt.
However, I do have a couple non-felt related things for you if you’re looking for more rainbow/St. Patrick’s Day activities and inspiration. This is a tri-fold display board I made to go along with my colors class. The photos and words are attached with velcro to make it more interactive. I used laminated cardstock for the lettering.
After we learned our color signs we glued green rice to the shamrock for a fun sensory activity.
You can download the shamrock printable HERE. Happy crafting and don’t forget to wear your green on Monday!
